So it really comes down to budget, personal style, and what you’d like your charger to look like on your home or business premises.

This is all about how you connect your car:

• Tethered chargers come with a built-in cable that stays attached. Just plug in and go. When not in use, the cable usually wraps around the unit.

• Untethered chargers have a Type 2 socket, and you use your own separate cable (usually stored in your car boot) to connect.

It depends on what works best for you. Here are some pros and cons to consider:

• Tethered

  • Cable is less likely to go missing

  • Might look a bit untidy if not wrapped neatly

• Untethered

  • More flexible, great if you need to use your cable elsewhere

Chargers need to be mounted on a solid wall or post, but placement is important for ease of use. A few tips:

• Tethered chargers come with fixed-length cables (typically 5m, 7.5m, 8.6m, or 10m), so make sure the cable can comfortably reach your car.

• If you’ve got multiple driveway spaces, we recommend placing the charger somewhere central, so it can reach any position.

• Extension cables are available (up to 10m in length), so planning ahead is key!
